Wild plants grow on their own across the world. Picking them gives herbs, berries, roots and
mushrooms; the plant grows back a few days later. Herbs are ground at the herbalist’s table, dried
on the drying rack and brewed in the cooking pot into remedies, or tied by hand into charms. All
numbers on this page come from data/wild_plants, data/herbalism.json, the recipes of
data/recipes and the effects of data/effects.
Picking and regrowth
- Find the plant (see the table below: each grows in certain biomes and spots).
- Break it (left mouse button). Wild plants break instantly, by hand.
- You get its herbs, never the plant block itself.
A picked plant grows back where it stood after its regrowth days (world days of 20 minutes), as soon as its chunk is loaded again, provided its spot is still free and the ground under it is still there. Placing a block on the spot cancels the regrowth.
Seasons
Each plant has a look for its season (flowers, berries) and a plain look for the rest of the year. Some give extra items when picked in season: the berries and flowers are only there in their season. Belladonna, bilberry, cranberry, St John’s wort and the water lily give nothing at all out of season. The seasons follow the calendar: 24 days each, spring first (see Seasons and weather).

Berries and mushrooms are food: eating them heals a little (1 health, 1.5 for porcini) and gives Nourished for a few seconds. They spoil in 3 days (cranberries in 8), see Food and preservation.
Poisons
Two wild plants are poisonous to eat:
Belladonna Berries: Poisoned with 3 stacks for 20 seconds.
Fly Agaric Cap: Poisoned with 2 stacks for 15 seconds.
Poisoned deals 0.5 poison damage every 2 seconds for each stack (up to 5 stacks). Some creature bites poison as well. The antipoison below cures it. The fly agaric cap is still worth keeping: the fever purge needs one.
The stations
- Herbalist’s table: worked by hand. Each use adds 2 seconds of work (up to 4 kept), so a 6 second grinding takes three uses. Crafted at the workbench (below).
- Drying rack: 4 sticks and 2 plant twine, by hand. It needs no fire.
- Cooking pot: a fired clay pot, 3 sticks and 1 plant twine, by hand. It burns fuel, must be lit and brews at 90 °C (see Fire and stations).
The herbalist’s table takes three planks over a stick, a stone and a stick; any planks and any stone (andesite, basalt, granite, limestone, sandstone, stone) will do:
Plant twine is twisted by hand from 3 plant fibres.

Charms, by hand
Shapeless recipes, made from the inventory or at the workbench:
Effects
Remedies and charms are used like food. What each one does:
| Item | Heals | Effect | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Antidote | removes Poisoned, +0.05 health a second | 60 s | |
| 4 | Soothed | +0.3 health a second | 40 s | |
| Second Wind | gives back 2 breath a second | 180 s | ||
| Purged | removes Fever, halves the progress of the Hunger of the Dead | 1200 s | ||
| Moon Tisane | halves the progress of Moon Blood | 1200 s | ||
| Thirst Remedy | halves the progress of Pale Blood | 1200 s | ||
| Garlic Ward | wards off Pale Blood | 1200 s | ||
| Wolfsbane Ward | wards off Moon Blood | 1200 s | ||
| St John’s Wort Ward | wards off Pale Blood and the Hunger of the Dead | 1200 s | ||
| Rowan Ward | wards off all three curses | 1200 s | ||
| 1 | Bandaged | stops Bleeding, +0.4 health a second | 10 s |
Fever comes from the bites of rats and the claws of ghouls: it deals 0.5 poison damage every 10 seconds, slows you to 90% and warms you by 4 °C. Bandages are torn by hand from linen (3 per linen, see the flax of Farming).
No creature or event inflicts Moon Blood, Pale Blood or the Hunger of the Dead in the current game: the wards and the slowing effects are in place, but have nothing to act on yet.
